Purposeful Steps

Steps. No journey can start without one, and milestones are only accomplished through them. Just as you must leap before you soar, you must take steps to reach your goals. These steps can’t just be regular old steps though. They must be purposeful.

I say this for the sake of execution. You might take a step, or even a grand leap, but if you take it in the wrong direction then you’re just further away from your goal.

There needs to be purpose behind every single step, whether you’re running up and down a basketball court, tending to your schoolwork, going to work, or anything else. To do this, you need to know what you want to achieve and create a plan. You need to not procrastinate and pay attention to the small and seemingly insignificant decisions you make on a daily basis.

You need to know the reason you take each individual step. Why? So that you can take it. This isn’t easy, but it’s absolutely necessary.

Earlier I mentioned the cost of taking a step in the wrong direction. Now let me tell you the converse:

The smallest step in the right direction is still a step in the right direction.

Wherever it is you’re trying to go, and whatever it is you’re trying to achieve, you won’t get there if you take steps in the wrong directions (plural, for there are always multiple). You need to take directions in the right direction (singular), and to do that you need to be purposeful with your steps. It’s that simple.

Until next time.
