#OneSentenceSaturday

This site has remained stagnant for far too long as I was seemingly MIA. I’ve still been productive in the meantime though. Since I last posted here, I finished my second semester at TKC, finished the basketball season, had a tremendous track season, got an internship, and did a whole host of other things. But most importantly, I’ve been writing. A lot. And with the #onesentencesaturday I’m starting today, I’m ready to slowly ease into promoting my work.

After writing like a madman since February (since February 1st, I’ve worked on my creative writing literally every single day. Don’t believe me? Follow me on Instagram and Twitter. Through my stories and tweets you’ll be able to see what I’ve done and what I continue to do, ’cause I’m ain’t stopping any time soon), I’m now sitting on multiple novels, multiple novellas, a feature-length screenplay, a short film screenplay, a couple short stories, a couple children’s fables, and more, all of which have undergone multiple revisions. And that’s not mentioning any of the dozens of stories that are WIP’s and/or that I have at least mildly outlined. All of this is to say that I have a lot of content to share.

And I know I’m not the only one. I’ve engaged with multiple people both in person and on social media who spend a significant amount of time writing,  be it fiction, non-fiction, or both, yet, like me, don’t promote the work itself. And I know there are tons of people out there that I haven’t engaged with who, whether they’ve written and are sitting on more than me or are just getting started, haven’t put even a small part of their work out there either.

That’s why I’m doing this #onesentencesaturday thing. To get myself and anyone else who wants to join more comfortable with the practice of continually putting their writing – and therein really a part of themselves – on display.

So how does it work? Simple.

1.) Every Saturday, post a photo with one sentence (and one sentence only) that you’ve written on Instagram, Twitter, and/or Facebook with the hashtag #onesentencesaturday. The sentence can be fiction, non-fiction, from a speech, or anything else so long as you’re the one who wrote it.

2.) VERY IMPORTANT, in the caption, YOU CANNOT PROVIDE ANY CONTEXT FOR THE SENTENCE. Not everything needs context. Give the sentence a chance to breathe without the excess words that would come before and after it in a paragraph. Let the one sentence shine.

3.) (Optional) Tag 1-2 friends each week, challenging them to participate in the subsequent week.

4.) Have fun! (Well, this step isn’t really necessary, but it’s highly recommended if you can stand it. If this is the equivalent to jail time for you, why do it in the first place?)

That’s it!

I’m starting the challenge today and would love for you to join me. Follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to see my #onesentencesaturdays and join me in sharing your writing today!

Until next time.
