Don’t Be Dead Before You Die

Okay, I’m still trying to shake a mild concussion I got this past weekend so this post is going to be short (even more so than usual). I just want to remind you about one thing: don’t be dead before you die.

Confused? Don’t be. All I mean is that you shouldn’t be as good as dead, to yourself and those around you, while you’re still alive. You need to live life to the fullest and do your best to provide continually increasing benefits to both yourself and others.

This seems like an easy thing to do, but many people still fail to accomplish it. There are people who spend each day going through the motions. They may have a job, and a family, but they don’t actively participate in either. They do what they need to, or at least that which they think they need to, and that’s it. These people have settled into their daily life, see nothing wrong with it, and thus continue it until their in the grave.

Now I want to clarify that I am not referring to people who are content with their lifestyles. Those people are typically still open to learning, growing, and providing increased benefits to themselves and others. These people are open to new opportunities in terms of both work and recreation. Instead, I am referring to those who don’t want anything to change. The people who have established a routine and don’t want to deviate from it. The people who are alive but not living.

So how do you live? Simple. Be open to change, like switching jobs. Be open to new opportunities and experiences, like an internship or skydiving. Overall, just be open-minded. Be open to experiencing all that life has to offer, growing yourself, and providing increased benefit to both yourself and others in the process.

Whatever you decide to do, don’t be dead before you die. Live life to the fullest, whatever that looks like for you as an individual.

Until next time.

(P.S. – Sorry if this post isn’t quite coherent enough. As I stated in the first paragraph, I’m trying to push through a concussion. And, to be honest, it hasn’t been going the greatest. Once I’ve recovered I may redo this post in the future. Also, next week will be the last The Serious post of the year…)
